Firefox Myths

July 31, 2006

Firefox has been a favorite browser of mine for the past few months because of it’s cool features – tabbed browsing, RSS feeds, extensions, open source and sleek interface.

You agree too, right? Here’s a link that debunks all the above conceived notions on Firefox, enough to rattle your confidence in the browser. With many new browsers like Flock, Seamonkey and Maxthon trying to capture IE’s dominant market share with add-ons, there’s real innovation in this space coming up.

But I really do wonder if these browsers are any safer and better than IE or Opera? I am moving onto Opera from today, the most secure and the first to integrate most of the features mentioned above. So much secure, that there have been no unpatched vulnerabilities according to the link.

Sri Vaishnavism

July 31, 2006

I convinced my Dad, a walking encyclopedia on Indian history, places, myths and religion and a good raconteur, to start blogging for the greater benefit of all.

His blog mainly focuses on Sri Vaishnavism, a subsect of Hinduism – On numerous occasions, he has amazed me and other relatives/friends with his in-depth knowledge on the history and philosophy of Sri Vaishnavas.

Friday being ThiruAdipuram, I asked him about the significance of the occasion. While he elaborated on the story behind it, I urged him to start blogging to which he surprisingly relented. Check it out, you could learn a thing or two!

planning your retirement..

July 28, 2006

I really wish I had come across this excellent forum on financial planning and investments for NRI (Non Resident Indians) while living in the USA. There’s a wealth of information regarding I-bonds, mutual funds, Asset Allocation Plan (AAP) and stocks.

It’s never too late, start saving today for a comfortable tomorrow.

Kargil

July 27, 2006

Saluting the heroes and paying homage to the Indian jawans who lost their lives in defence of our Motherland and thwarted the enemy’s machinations on the seventh anniversary of Kargil war.

Jai Hind!

In a lighter vein, here’s an anecdote from annals of Indian politics.

In the Parliament, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia raised the issue of the ongoing China-India border dispute and asked Nehru what steps he had taken to resolve it.

Nehru replied that it was barren area not worth taking any steps. Dr. Lohia retorted that as Nehru’s head was bald and barren, why didnt he offer it to china. Nehru’s face was flushed with anger on these remarks. :)

Organize your life!

July 23, 2006

You lead a busy life, hopping from one event to the next everyday.  You note down the events on your palm pilot or on the Notepad/Outlook calendar. If you were wishing for a webapp where your weekly/monthly events could be marked and available online, welcome to 30boxes, the online calendar and daily planner.

30boxes has a pretty simple and neat interface  – you can add tags to all your events, share your activities with your buddies and also compile a list of to-do items.

They also have a cool button, sign up and organize your life!
